About The Artist
A classroom of kindergartners have been assigned a project. They’ve been given white paper plates and a basic box of markers, they have been asked to draw their self portrait with the materials provided. After the kids were finished, the paper plate portraits were all proudly hung up and displayed in the school hallway. There was one that stood out. It was hot pink. It was mine. My name is Mae Towers. I am an Artist.
I was born and raised in rural Northern Maine, Fort Fairfield. Basically, Canada. Where the people are raised on potatoes and ride their moose and dogsleds to work. I relocated to the beautiful Rockland coast in 2011. Living in the critically acclaimed “Art Capital of Maine”, has inspired me to pursue my art as a career professionally. I enjoy painting a variety of subjects, excluding boats, lighthouses, puffins and any other ocean related scenery(I will consider a boat commission if asked nicely). What truly makes Rockland magical is the community here. The support I’ve received as an artist and in my artwork since I’ve been living here leaves me overwhelmingly grateful. The community is single handedly the reason I am able to keep venturing forward in my artistic endeavors. Thank you. You know who you are. If this is the first time you have seen my artwork or have heard of me, thank you for taking the time to read this and looking. If you’re interested in what other art I have available or you’re just naturally curious like a kitten, please check out my social media platforms. I can be found on most social media platforms that kids are into these days. Please follow and "Like" these pages if interested in my work. I post works in progress and new finished pieces available to the public first on Facebook and Instagram.
Since my first painting sold I have always donated a part of my proceeds to non profit organizations. I believe the best gift a person has is the selfless act of giving that fulfills purpose in our lives. The motivation for my artwork started with my neurotic rescue dog, Louie. My hobby turned into a series of rescue dogs which has provided me(and my after school art students) with the opportunity to be involved with local shelters, dog rescues, and participation in fundraisers.
This year I have been expanding my painting subjects with chickens, and will anticipate doing more farm animals. Because of this change, I have recently teamed up with Peace Ridge Farm in Brooks, ME, an animal sanctuary for over 300 abused animals. I am so excited about working with this organization, as they are such a wonderful group of dedicated people. Please take the time to read about them! www.peaceridgefarm.com
